Credits ***Introduction*** Welcome to the first FAQ devoted to the GameShark enabled co-op deathmatch mode in Perfect Dark’s Carrington Institute training level. In order to make use of this trick, you’ll need a GameShark and an appropriate high-resolution enabling code. I tested the code on a version 3.3 GameShark, and cannot guarantee compatibility with anything lower. Enable codes are available at any of the fine GameShark sites listed in the "Links" section below. The code is as follows: 8009DFE9 0026 8009DFEB 0080 802C92C4 0020 D01BCF0F 001E 801BCF10 0007 D01BCF0F 001E 801BBEFB 00FF D01BCF0F 001E 801BC69F 00FF D01BEB7F 001E 801BEB80 0007 D01BEB7F 001E 801BDB6B 00FF D01BEB7F 001E 801BE30F 00FF With the code enabled, simply select any solo mission to get started. Make sure that your co-op buddy is set to "human" and friendly fire is enabled. ***Rules of Engagement*** Player one controls Joanna Dark. Player two controls Velvet Dark. Both players begin in the room housing Joanna’s computer terminal on the Institute’s second floor. Dead players will always respawn in this room. Each player begins the match with all weapons, including the classic GoldenEye ones. Furthermore, players have infinite ammunition and no need to reload. Attempts to modify the code to allow for reloading have thus far been unsuccessful, although anyone who can successfully do so is encouraged to contact me with details. Whenever a player is killed, that player will respawn by borrowing a portion of the surviving player’s health. For example, Joanna has full health and kills Velvet. When Velvet respawns, she "borrows" 50% of Joanna’s remaining health. If the surviving player has very little health remaining, the vanquished player may not be able to respawn at all, and the match must be restarted anew. If both players are ever killed simultaneously, the match will end, and must be restarted anew. Cheats do no function with this code. Laptop Gun sentry turrets are not particularly useful, since the game doesn’t consider the other player to be an enemy, and they will not lock on or fire. ***Strategy*** Even though they’re arrogant and rude, Carrington Institute employees make great human shields. They’re invincible and stop most projectiles cold. The extra-wide Daniel Carrington himself makes great cover. Unless your opponent is far away, beware the elevators. They move like molasses in January and you’re a sitting duck while you’re standing there in the open waiting for the doors to open. If your opponent is stuck down below, the second floor balcony makes a great sniping spot. The railing gives you at least half cover and the slow-moving elevators make it hard for your foe to close the distance. Any of the rooms on the second floor make great camping spots. Especially Carrington’s room, since there’s only one way in or out of it. Never underestimate the hoverbike. It provides great cover and lends you superior movement capabilities. Unfortunately, it can’t be easily removed from the area where it starts out, so you’re stuck waiting for your opponent to come to you. The hovercrate in the hanger makes for good, and mobile, cover. You can also place mines on it prior to giving it a good shove toward your opponent. ***Quirks and Bugs*** The following bugs have been reported with this code. Please report any other bugs uncovered to me. 1. Occasional graphic glitches may crop up. These are minor and do not affect gameplay. 2. Occasionally, weapons may glitch up, making it impossible for a player to fire or switch weapons. This glitch lasts until that player is killed and respawns. 3. Sometimes, a player may become temporarily immune to explosions generated from his or her own weapons. 4. It is sometimes possible to destroy the hoverbike with explosives. ***Warnings*** Do not attempt to use the firing range or engage in holotraining or gadget training while this code is active. Do not attempt to access any of the computer terminals spread throughout the Institute. Doing any of these things will result in game crashes. ***Wanted*** Anyone who can create a PAL version of this code for users of cheat devices like the Action Replay is encouraged to do so and submit the (fully tested) results to me for inclusion in future editions of this FAQ. Full credit will be given, of course. Additionally, any improvements to the basic code (such as a version that allows for reloading), would be most welcome. Bug reports and CI-specific strategy advice is welcome, as well.
